Cristiano Ronaldo stole the show in the first leg of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid's UEFA Champions League semi final.

The Portugal captain's hat-trick saw Real come away from the Santiago Bernabeu with a 3-0 advantage against their city rivals who they also defeated in the 2014 and 2016 finals.

The former Manchester United forward had scored five times across two legs in their victory over Bayern Munich in the last round.

And he continued that goalscoring form on a very good night for Real.

The La Liga leaders took the lead when Ronaldo headed in a Casemiro cross after just 10 minutes of action.

He then doubled that lead 17 minutes from time as Zinedine Zidane's side went 2-0 up on Diego Simeone's side.

And the hat-trick was complete with four minutes to go as Ronaldo got on the end of a counter-attack to slot in from close range and leave Real within reach of their third final since 2014.

Monaco take on Juventus on Wednesday night in the first leg of the second semi final.
