He has not played professionally since 2011, but the original Ronaldo could take to the field again.

The ex-Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Barcelona and PSV star has hinted that he could play for North American Soccer League side Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

The Brazilian World Cup winner, who won the Golden Boot at Korea/Japan 2002, has bought a 10 per cent stake in the American second tier side and told Sports Illustrated that it could lead to something more.

"I will try to play some games" said the 38-year-old. "Maybe if we get to the final and I’m feeling good, why not? I will put my name in the NASL as an option."

It means he could come up against former Real Madrid team-mate Raul, who plays for fellow NASL side New York Cosmos.
