Robert Downey Jr.’s son, Indio Downey, has been arrested for cocaine possession.
Indio was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon after a car he was travelling in was pulled over in West Hollywood where he was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, reported to be cocaine, and the possession of drug paraphernalia.
In the '90s Robert Downey, Jr. also struggled from drug addiction. In 1996, Downey was put in a court-ordered 45-day treatment facility for cocaine and heroin addiction.
In 1999 he was sentenced to three-years in prison for failing to turn up to a court-ordered drug test. He served 12 months.
Downey Jr. released a statement following the arrest: “Unfortunately, there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it.”
“We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s Department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.”
