Alas, she did not end up winning but there is no doubt that the goal Stephanie Roche scored to earn a FIFA Puskas Award nomination was out of this world.
Second place to James Rodriguez is still a huge achievement for the Irish footballer, especially when you consider that Roche pulled in a third of the votes for goal of the year. But as the Twitter reaction showed, there are many who believe that she should have prevailed.
