Whether it is more accurate or hopeful, many are now looking at hurling with a renewed interest, as it begins to show signs of a game nearing the end of its greatest period of single team dominance. The tight contest in this year’s Allianz League Division 1A – which saw all 6 teams go into the final day facing both a semi-final berth and relegation – has many pundits talking about a fresh group of challengers to the dominance of Brian Cody’s Kilkenny.

Richie Power, Kilkenny corner forward, spoke to Newstalk’s Oisin Langan after Sunday’s narrow 0-20 to 2-12 win over Cork at Nowlan Park, which saw Cody's sided into the semi-finals while Cork narrowly miss out.

While Jimmy Barry Muphy's side will feel the pain of missing out on the semi-finals, there will no doubt be a renewed self belief following such a performance against the All Ireland champions.

Power talked to Newstalk about the growing strength of Kilkenny’s challengers.

“The league has shown that this year. It was great for the GAA going into the last day…all six teams could qualify for a semi final and all 6 teams could end up in relegation, you know, so you couldn’t ask for any more.”
