Manchester United’s faltering season has been given a boost with the news Wayne Rooney has signed a new contract at the club.

The Sun reports that Rooney will earn £300,000 per week over the course of four and a half years, earning him a total of £70m and keeping him at the club until 2018.

Rooney has been heavily linked with moves away from the club in the past – most recently to Chelsea during last summer’s transfer window – but the report today claims the questions surrounding the striker’s future have now been banished, and any potential uncertainty in the summer has been avoided with the decision to extend Rooney’s contract now.
