Real Madrid are set to receive up to €2 million in compensation after Sami Khedira suffered a serious knee injury while on international duty.
The Germany midfielder is set to miss the rest of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in a friendly against Italy.
He now faces a race against time to be fit for the 2014 World Cup.
As part of FIFA's Player Protection insurance scheme, Real Madrid will receive €20,500 for every day that Khedira is out of action.
With a six month timescale, the club could receive as much as €2 million in compensation.
Real Madrid, who have indicated that they will not sign a replacement in January, received €1 million last season when left-back Marcelo was ruled out for three months after suffering a broken foot while on Brazil duty.
