Five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld rolled back the years last night as he defeated the World Number One Michael van Gerwen at the PDC World Darts Championships.

The 48-year-old, who became a grandfather last weekend, defeated his Dutch compatriot in the Third Round at Alexandra Palace, 4-3. It is the first time the two Dutch stars met in the World Championships. van Gerwen won the title in 2014, and has reached at least the semi-final stages in the last three years.

The 2007 World Champion will now play Michael Smith in the quarter finals. Smith reached the last eight for the first time after a 4-0 win over Benito van de Pas.

There were also wins last night for the reigning World Champion Gary Anderson and former Champion Adrian Lewis. Anderson only lost one leg as he defeated Vincent van der Voort 4-0. Lewis was also a 4-0 winner over Mensur Suljovic.

The quarter final pairings will be completed later tonight after the final three Third Round games. 16 time World Champion Phil Taylor faces Jelle Klassen. Peter Wright takes on Dave Chisnall and the final unseeded player Alan Norris is against Mark Webster.
