Russian president Vladimir Putin has lifted Russia's ban on alcohol at sporting events for the 2018 World Cup.

The new ruling will also allow FIFA to give written approval for any advertising or trading in a 1.2 mile radius around the stadiums during the tournament.

Last year, the Russia introduced a new law which prohibited alcohol advertising on television, radio, the internet, public transport and billboards to curb the country's drink problems.
