Form

Bayer Leverkusen might still be holding on to second place in the Bundesliga. But their recent form has been uninspiring Since the New Year, Sami Hyppia's side have lost four of their last six games, including a Cup defeat to second tier side Kaiserslautern on Wednesday.

Conversely, PSG have been picking up positive results over their past six matches. Four of those have ended in victories, with no defeats. The most disappointing result of their recent run was a 1 - 1 draw against lowly Guincamp side in the league. However, they look set to retain their Ligue 1 title with relative comfort.

Tactics & team news

PSG are missing forward Edinson Cavani who is out with a thigh injury. With or without the Uruguayan, Laurent Blanc will play a 4-3-3 with Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front and two of Ezequiel Lavezzi, Lucas Moura and Jeremy Menez flanking him.

Yohan Cabaye's signature gives PSG another option in the trio behind the front line. Prior to January that zone was the preserve of the energetic Blaise Matuidi, regista Marco Verratti and experienced Thiago Motta but Cabaye could force his way into the reckoning. The recently underwhelming Javier Pastore could also be an option for the most advanced role of the three.

Leverkusen are also likely to stick with their counter-attacking 4-3-3. The pace of Schalke-bound Sidney Sam and Korean forward Son Heung Min will be used to complement the more traditional target man qualities of Stefan Kiessling.

Suspension means Bayer will miss versatile Bayern Munich loanee Emre Can who can operate at left back or in midfield.

Captain Simon Rolfes, Gonzalo Castro and Lars Bender are likely to start as the midfield trio.

Interesting stats

Bayer Leverkusen lead the Bundesliga in terms of goals scored via counter-attacks. According to Squawka, the German side average 50 per cent possession in their domestic league.

PSG are likely to dominate possession at the Bay Arena as they have averaged 60 per cent possession in Ligue 1 (the highest in France) but more significantly are at 59 per cent in the Champions League compared to Leverkusen's 49 per cent.

PSG have also been dangerous from corners in Europe this season with six of their 16 group stage goals coming from corner kicks.

Indeed, in the 4 - 1 win over Olympiakos in September, three goals came from corner kicks as this Squawka graphic reveals...
