New Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is targeting a strong season in Europe when the forthcoming campaign starts.

The former Real Madrid, Malaga and Villareal manager was speaking to the media for the first time in his new capacity.

His predecessor Roberto Mancini experienced two disappointing years in the Champions League despite the vast outlay.

Pellegrini says they need to become contenders in Europe's top competition, though he hopes that will not be to the detriment of the team in other competitions... 

He also confirmed that he is on the hunt for a new striker.

Carlos Tevez left the club last month for Juventus which leaves Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko as the only senior strikers left in the first team.
