Over the last couple of days, Rio Ferdinand's latest autobiography has been serialised and one of the things that stood from today was the former Manchester United defender's culinary complaints about David Moyes.

The ex-England centre-half reveals that Moyes put an end to a tradition which saw Man United players enjoying low-fat chips on the eve of matches. That went down far less well than the chips with Ferdinand but Pat Nevin believes that the standoff was more of a symptom rather than a cause during a traumatic 2013/14 campaign which saw players and Moyes drift apart.

"The chips sound like a small thing. But I understand why Rio brings it up," said Pat on Off The Ball tonight.

"With a number of things going on, one little thing sticks in the craw a little bit and everyone gets a bit fed up. I've seen daft things over the years being the things that annoy people. It's not that thing that annoys them. That's just the thing that sticks out and I don't think it would have been everyone's."

Nevin also spoke about another man singled out by Ferdinand in his book. Chelsea captain John Terry fell out with Ferdinand over an allegation of racially abusing his brother Anton during an October 2011 match.

Ferdinand's biggest complaint about Terry seems to be the fact that his former England team-mate did not pick up the phone to apologise directly to any members of the Ferdinand family.

The chips were down at Man United in more ways than one

If he was in Terry's shoes, Nevin says he would have picked up that phone. But he also gave an interesting insight into Terry which shows a far more complex side to a man usually derided outside of die-hard Chelsea fan circles.

"He is one of the most incredible characters I have ever come across in my life and in football. He is very quietly spoken, I would say shy. But within that he has this incredible ability to make people do things for him. Team-mates absolutely adore him and it's not because he bullies them, it's because they admire him. They believe in his honesty and integrity - and remember this is John Terry I'm talking about here!" said Pat, who admitted that he had his doubts about Terry until he spent time with him.

Nevin also gave his take on Cesc Fabregas' incredible assists record as he continues to create goals for Chelsea, while he also picked out Angel Di Maria's masterclass for Manchester United against QPR.

He also analysed how Liverpool were hit by the absence of Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling.
