Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin reckons Maurizio Sarri has done enough to deserve another year in charge.

It has been a difficult season for the Italian, who left Napoli for west London last summer.

But he has guided Chelsea to the Europa League semi-finals and more importantly secured a Top 4 place in the Premier League.

That latter achievement is one Nevin didn't expect to happen as the season wore on.

"Chelsea, I don't think they're the best of those teams and I didn't think they were going to make it," he said.

"But you've got to say, 'Well done Sarri'. He managed it pretty well.

"I'd like him to stay"

"I'd personally like him to stay and I like what he's trying to do. It's not happening brilliantly yet. But there have been periods in games," he said.

"You'd tend to forget that  the vast majority of this season, they've had most of the possession for most of the games.

"There's a massive big gap between them and Liverpool and Manchester City . Whereas Sarri, if this is the beginning of what he's trying to do, then you should give him another year.

"If he ends this season being in the finals of two of the three cups... he loses by a penalty after extra-time against Manchester City and gets into the Top 4."

Pat also discussed the role of a technical director and Vincent Kompany's winner against Leicester City.
