Manchester City might have beaten West Brom to get their league campaign back on track, but it's one refereeing decision that became the main talking point.

West Brom were reduced to ten men after Gareth McAuley was sent off by referee Neil Swarbrick after just two minutes, when it was Craig Dawson who felled Wilfried Bony.

It follows a similar outcome in a match between Manchester United and Sunderland when Wes Brown was sent off despite the fact that his Black Cats team-mate John O'Shea appeared to commit the initial last-man challenge.

Last season, Arsenal suffered a case of mistaken identity against Chelsea, when referee Andre Marriner famously sent off Kieran Gibbs even though Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the player who committed a handball on the line.

Bony was the man who gave City the lead on 27 minutes for his first goal for the club since signing in January.

That was followed up by a Fernando finish and a second half David Silva goal helped Manuel Pellegrini's side maintain second place in the Premier League after indifferent form at league and European level of late.
