Ireland's official base for the Rugby World Cup is St George's Park in Staffordshire, with the largest nearby city being Stoke.

Our pool rivals France, however, are all the way down in the South London borough of Croydon.

That fact does not seem to be going down well with French media outlet MetroNews who explored the area in an article on their website.

They note that Manchester United legend Eric Cantona whose kung-fu kick court case took place there  and that model Kate Moss is a native of the area.

Referencing the London Riots of 2011, it points out that Croydon has improved since then but "remains a sad and monotonous" place and suggests that it's "greatest asset is that Croydon is only situated a half hour away from Gatwick international airport which is not a great sign for the French XV which intends to stay in England as long as possible".
