Novak Djokovic produced a clinical display to blitz Andy Murray 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 in the French Open final to become just the eighth man in history to complete a career Grand Slam.

The top seed and world number one conceded the first set to his Scottish opponent, but produced a magnificent display to win the next three sets on an aggregate score of 18-7.

The Serbian dominated sets two and three and looked to be cruising in the fourth set when he led 5-2, with Murray fading, but the Scot found some extra reserves from within to win the next two sets, with his service and forehand causing problems for his opponent.

A tense finish ensued and after Murray brought it back to deuce, but on match point he netted a backhand handing Djokovic the historic win.

It was the 34th time the pair have met, with Djokovic's win meaning that he ends his Roland Garros hoodoo after final defeats in 2012, 2014 and 2015.

“It’s a special moment, perhaps the biggest of my career. The sun is finally coming out. Nice to see it after 10 days of rain. I hope the fans had a nice time watching this great encounter today," Djokovic said afterwards.

For Murray, the wait goes on for a British winner at the Open since Fred Perry in 1935.
