Newcastle have had a €8 million bid for Bafetimbi Gomis rejected by Lyon.

The French striker is into the last year of his contract and although Lyon would ideally like him off the wage bill, they think he is worth more money.

However the Magpies' offer remains on the table.

Newcastle have yet to make a signing since Joe Kinnear joined as director of football.
