Visits to The White House to meet the American President are one of the unofficial perks of winning a major competition in America.

On Sunday night, the New England Patriots were the first team to win a major title in the Trump-era. Although not yet confirmed, it is widely expected that the team will be invited to Washington to meet Donald Trump, such is his close friendship with owner Robert Kraft, coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.

Despite the prestige of going to The White House, two Patriots players have already said they will not take up the potential offer.

Speaking after the win, Martellus Bennett (who was a known supporter of Hillary Clinton) said he would not accept an invitation. He told the Dallas Morning News that it should not be a surprise he would turn down the offer.

"It is what it is. People know how I feel about it. Just follow me on Twitter." He also said he did not feel the plans to not travel would effect his relationship with teammates. "I'm not really worried about that," Bennett said. "I'm not worried about it at all."

Devin McCourty has also revealed he would not take up the invitation. Speaking to Time, the 29-year-old revealed; " I can't imagine a way I go there."

"Basic reason for me is I don't feel accepted in the White House. With the president having so many strong opinions and prejudices I believe certain people might feel accepted there while others won't."

No date has yet been revealed for the Patriots' visit to Washington.
