Wales defender Neil Taylor has been suspended for two games, following his red card against the Republic of Ireland.

Taylor was given a straight red card for a tackle that resulted in Seamus Coleman suffering a double break in his right leg. Coleman is expected to be out of action until late this year at the very earliest.

The Welsh FA confirmed that the Aston Villa defender was given a two-match ban, following a meeting of FIFA's Disciplinary Committee.

Taylor will miss Wales' next two World Cup qualifiers, but will be allowed play in friendlies. The news of Taylor's suspension comes as a blow to manager Chris Coleman, after the slow start Wales had in World Cup qualification.

The 28-year-old will miss Wales' game away to Serbia in June, followed by September's game at home to Austria.

After half of Group D qualification, Wales lie in third place, four points behind Serbia and the Republic of Ireland. the group winners are guaranteed their place at next year's World Cup, with second place having the possibility of qualifying through a play-off.

The news of Taylor's suspension comes on the same day that Seamus Coleman returned to Everton after he spent the past month in Ireland.
