Manchester United have broken the habit of over a decade today as, for the first time since 2002, they lost successive home game in the league, but that hasn’t stopped David Moyes talking of title aspirations.

The Scot watched his side go down 1-0, for the second time this week, at home, this time thanks to a second half goal from Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye, but following the game he insisted there was still hope for his team:

“I stand firm that we’ll be very close to it and I hope we’re in and around [the title race] when it comes to the end of the season.”

“We lost the two games 1-0, they’ve probably been both slightly against the run of play we’ve lost them. But it has happened, we have toe expect that here but We have to create more chances, more opportunities played better, that’s the way to do it,” Moyes said.

Throughout the game United’s attacking ability seemed blunted in the absence of Wayne Rooney and with the exception of Adnan Januzaj the home team failed to offer much in the way of problems for the Newcastle defence.

“We lacked a bit of creativity at the right times and when we’ve had a chance to make good passes we’ve not made them,” Moyes said after the game, speaking to BT Sport.
