MMA fighter and underground star Kimbo Slice has died, aged 42.

Slice, whose real name is Kevin Ferguson came to prominence through a series of street fights that were uploaded on YouTube. The fame earned through those videos earned Slice a MMA career.

After beginning in MMA career in 2007, Slice eventually joined the UFC in 2009, through their The Ultimate Fighter series. Slice left the UFC to take up a career in professional boxing.

Seven fights in boxing, resulted in seven wins with six coming by knockout. The level of opponent never resulted in Slice earning a title shot of any type before he returned to MMA.

His last fight came in February, at Bellator 149. Slice defeated Dada 5000, but the fight was later declared a No Contest after Slice was found to have tested positive for Nandrolone in a pre-fight drug test..

He was due to fight in London on July 16th at Bellator 158 against James Thompson. Bellator president Scott Coker said that Slice was a "charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport".

The news of Slice's sudden death was confirmed by his training group, American Top Team.
