David Meyler insists he's happy to play wherever Martin O'Neill puts if it means getting a game for Ireland.

But the Corkman doesn't expect it to be right-back again any time soon because Séamus Coleman is "Ireland's number one" in that station.

Meyler replaced the then-injured Everton star for the Euro 2016 qualifiers against both Germany and Gibraltar last year, performing well as O'Neill's side recorded two positive results, 1-1 and 7-0 respectively.

But ahead of this Sunday's vital Group D showdown with Poland at the Aviva, the Hull City star admits he'd take any jersey and doesn't expect it to be No.2.

"It shouldn't matter where you play for Ireland," Meyler told Newstalk's Nathan Murphy after Off The Ball's live commentary of the Tigers' clash with Chelsea on Sunday. "Likewise when I played against Germany and Gibraltar - that's just the way it is.

"Me good old buddy Séamie Coleman, Ireland's number one right-back. I seen he scored the winner (first goal against QPR on Sunday) - don't worry he'll be getting a text in a minute.

"Séamie's arguably the best right-back in the Premier league for me - and he's right-back for Ireland.

"The manager knows that I'm a midfielder. I played midfield for him for Sunderland, he knows I played midfield for him for Ireland. Just on the occasion we were a bit short. I had to do a job for him so I happily obliged."
