Anyone who has read books such as Inverting the Pyramid or have followed football over the decades, will have noted the rate of evolution the sport has followed.

But what will football of the future look like and are we already looking at the blueprint of the game of tomorrow?

On this week's Team 33, we were joined by Universality - The Blueprint for Soccer's New Era author Matthew Whitehouse, who argues that the game is moving towards an era of "universality" spearheaded by Pep Guardiola and the Germanic school of football.

Whitehouse explains exactly what universality means in a footballing sense, whether there is a place for "specialists" in the future and how the likes of Marcelo Bielsa, Louis van Gaal and Brendan Rodgers are among the innovators of the wider genre, while Jose Mourinho is not.

He also explained why he places the likes of Tony Pulis and Sam Allardyce outside the Premier League pool of non-innovators and why the Premier League's failure in Europe is linked to tactics.
