London Irish have confirmed the signing of Australian back James O'Connor.

The somewhat controversial yet versatile back will stay with the Premiership side until the end of the current season.

It is seen as a bid to play himself back into the Wallabies reckoning ahead of the 2015 World Cup.

O'Connor has been left out of Australia's squad for the Autumn internationals after an alleged drunken incident at Perth airport lead to his contract with the national team being terminated.

He was reportedly escorted from the airport after an altercation with staff.
