Today, a Lidl report detailing the issues contributing to and hindering girls' participation in sport was published.

Among the points highlighted include half of all girls giving up sports completely by the age of 13, as well as encouragement of girls to take up sporting hobbies being low.

Irish high jumper Deirdre Ryan joined Joe and Kev on Off The Ball to discuss the issues raised in the report but also to share her own experience en route to becoming an elite athlete: 

Off The Bench presenter and sports journalist Cliona Foley also joined us to discuss the report and steps that can be taken to encourage more girls to become involved in sport and remove barriers to participation.
