Tim Krul has produced a stunning display to drag Newcastle to a 1-0 win at White Hart Lane. The Newcastle goalkeeper proved to be an impassable final hurdle for Spurs and Andre Villas Boas’s side were left to take nothing from the afternoon following an early goal from Loic Remy.

Spurs dominated possession throughout the game and could have had three or four goals on another day, but Krul utilised every part of his body to thwart the repeated attempts and even when he couldn’t pull of the save the woodwork came to the rescue, denying Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen in the final ten minutes.

Remy’s goal came from a Yohan Goufran through ball that put the striker clear of the high Tottenham defensive line and one on one with Brad Friedel – in to replace the injured Hugo Lloris – who he deftly rounded before sliding the ball into the empty net.

Spurs spent the majority of the game on the front foot, always threatening to score but never producing the one perfect chance to beat a goalkeeper in inspired form. Krul pulled off 18 saves throughout the game.
