In his new position with Tipperary, McGeeney will work on the mental aspects of preparations with the Premier County.

McGeeney also joined Paul Grimley's backroom team in his native Armagh recently. He will combine both roles in 2014.

McGeeney played for Amargh's senior football team between 1992 and 2007, serving as captain for the county's first and only All Ireland football final victory in 2002. He was axed from his role as Kildare manager in September, after losing a ballot by a single vote (29 to 28 against). He managed the team for six seasons.

Speaking to Off the Ball after the controversial vote, Ronan Sweeney said "Kieran, above anyone else that I’ve been involved with, has the characteristics of a great leader. I suppose his honesty, loyalty and respect are all genuine and players react to that. It’s all players want really. Kieran has done more than anybody in the last six years, whether it be a player, club delegate, county board member, anyone"
