With the Olympics in Rio around the corner, 2016 is a huge year for Ireland's boxers.

The 2008 silver medalist Kenneth Egan joined Oisin Langan for a Rewind year in review and looked ahead to some of the big challenges, including a tricky test for Katie Taylor with Olympic qualifiers scheduled for April, just months before the big event.

Taylor has already indicated her frustration with the lateness of the qualifiers and Egan understands her misgivings.

"It was originally scheduled for January. She was supposed to box in the world championships but it was changed and it's going to be closer to the Olympic games. I can understand her frustration because if she boxes in these world championships and picks up any sort of a niggle, it can be a serious case when she's going out to the Olympic games themselves," he said.

"It's not an ideal case so she's just going to have to be extra careful I feel when she's going to these world championships to try and qualify."

Egan also looked at some of our other prospects, including Michael Conlan's bid to win Olympic gold.
