Keith Wood reckons the more expansive approach used by Ireland in their 40-10 victory over Scotland on Saturday is the way forward for Joe Schmidt's Six Nations champions.

Ireland won handsomely in Edinburgh, scoring four tries and subsequently winning the championship, with a performance that was in stark contrast to the much more conservative game-plans previously adopted in the tournament.

"They had to risk," Keith told Joe on Off The Ball in the aftermath of Ireland's second title in a row, "they hadn't really really risked for a few months.

"In many ways it opens up the possibility - can Ireland do that more often ... more accurately, can we have a blend of the two, please, because it was exhilarating to watch."

However, the 2001 world player of the year acknowledged: "I don't think you'd play against every team that way."

"Back-to-back championships is phenomenal," he continued. "It's 63 years since we did it outright. We need to try and meet these men when we can and pat them on the back the second we see them.

"You often miss the fact that you witness sporting history, well we have."
