John Giles believes Jamie Carragher was in the wrong to criticise Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno in the way he did on social media last night after the player's poor performance against Sevilla in the Europa League final.

Ex-Reds defender Carragher tweeted "Jurgen, transfer committee, anyone sign a f**king left back" during the game last night.

John was also critical of Moreno's performance on Off The Ball tonight but did not agree with the way Sky Sports pundit Carragher went about expressing that last night.

"In the position he's in, he's an ex-Liverpool player and that, I don't think he should be doing things like that. He's deleted [the tweet] but why put it on in the first place. He's a pundit. I think it's too personal. I don't think he should be doing that. Certainly he can criticise [Moreno] and I think he deserves the criticism. But [Moreno] has been like that all season, it wasn't just last night. He's very good going forward but he doesn't seem to have a clue about defending," said John.

Meanwhile, he feels Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp should try and keep Daniel Sturridge at the club, with the striker fully fit now and having scored a brilliant goal in the 3-1 loss to Sevilla.

"I think he should embrace him. I think he's an exceptional talent," said John, who thinks Klopp has done a good job with the players at his disposal.
