Jim Stynes is set to be commemorated with a bronze statue outside the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The Dubliner, who died in 2012 after a long battle with cancer, is considered a legend of Australian Rules football, having won numerous awards in his time with Melbourne, including the prestigious Brownlow Medal.
He becomes only the fifth athlete to be inducted into the Avenue of Legends, alongside legends like cricketer Shane Warne.
