"It's a pretty grim place. Different guys deal with things in different ways. Joe [Schmidt] said a few words and then it was quiet to be honest. Some guys got changed pretty quickly because they just wanted to get out of it. The women's team were playing so they went and watched them. I didn't change for about an hour. I was just sitting there. I was wrecked and sapped from the game, physically and emotionally."

That was the mood in the Ireland dressing room, immediately after the 13 - 10 defeat to England as Ireland No 8 Jamie Heaslip revealed to our own Joe Molloy.

Heaslip admitted mistakes were made for the English try. But as the minutes ticked on towards the end at Twickenham, the Leinster man fully expected Ireland to get an opportunity to overturn the English lead.

"If they made a mistake in those last 10 minutes, we could be sitting here talking about Triple Crowns and that but we're not," said Heaslip, who explained that Ireland thought they could "manipulate England outside the maul" and "exploit other spaces".

"I think we played a very smart game-plan and turned them a lot by kicking behind them as well. On the field I was just so aware that they're good at getting round the corner and then coming back with a load of backline or a lot of width," said Heaslip.

"Then when we had the ball, if you get to the edge, they will close down that space with their line speed. It's not too dissimilar to ourselves or Wales. So we had to negate that at times and you can do that several ways. You can do that by putting it behind them or try to get to the edge using deep runners. There are several different ways and kicking was one of them."

But Heaslip also saw the game as a big learning curve for the team and the main thing for him was mistakes and missed opportunities.

"At this level, you make a mistake, you get punished. In the Heineken Cup you might be able to make three mistakes and only get punished on one of them. In international rubgy, if you make three mistakes there's a good chance you'll be punished on two of them."
