Jamesie O'Connor believes both Clare and Waterford's approaches tactically cancelled each other out in today's Allianz Hurling League final.

The teams drew 0-22 after extra-time to set up a replay next Sunday but it was far from an exciting encounter as the two-time former Clare All-Ireland winner gauged as he spoke to Newstalk Sports' Oisin Langan after the game.

"Fair result, but maybe not one for the purists - I mean a lot of mistakes on both sides, I think 34 wides between them, 14 scores from play, 16 from placed balls. But you have to give credit to both sets of players," said Jamesie.

"For the most part, it was turgid stuff with very few goal opportunities at either end, sweepers at both sides of the field, reading the game and doing their jobs effectively.

"Both sides were playing very similar styles. They're both used to playing that possession type of game with the extra defender back and in a way maybe cancelled each other out."
