Cork native James Coughlan joined French D2 side Pau at the start of last season after eight years at Munster. He joined the side on a two year deal.

He spoke to Ger earlier this week about life in France and how he has settled. Pau won the D2 this season and will join the Pro12 next year. The 34 year old is already in pre season as the side prepare for life in the top flight.

Coughlan says the move has been "great" so far and he has spoken about how his family are trying to settle in a different way of life including learning the language.

He hopes to continue in the game after his playing days are over and has spoken about going into coaching once that comes.

Coughlan also spoke about how he feels the move has given his children a "head start" in life. His wife is Finnish and he told Ger that his children can now speak in English, French and Finnish.

Sean Dougall and Paddy Butler have joined Coughlan in Pau from Munster and he says the he feels a lot of young Irish players may follow himself, Jonny Sexton and others in playing abroad.

Pau's promotion adds an extra challenge for the team and Coughlan feels the signings made in the off season will help the side flourish in France's top tier next season.
