All five Irish players are struggling to get to grips with the worsening conditions on the opening day of the 2015 US PGA Championship.

The wind has picked up at Whistling Straits, which has made the putting much more difficult than earlier this afternoon.

Graeme McDowell leads the Irish challenge on even par after nine holes.

Rory McIlroy has had an eventful opening round. The World No 1 started with a bogey and has also had to splash a shot out of the water on the 5th and also found heavy rough with his tee-shot on the 7th.

Despite that, McIlroy is only on 1-over par, while Padraig Harrington is on 3-over

But Darren Clarke and Shane Lowry are both struggling on 4-over par.

At the top of the leaderboard, Dustin Johnson leads by a shot after a 6-under par 66 for his opening round, while World No 2 Jordan Spieth is on even par.
