Joe Ward has secured qualification to the Olympics.

The Moate light-heavyweight has won his semi-final at the World Championships in Doha beating Ishod Rasulov of Uzbekistan on points.

The 21-year-old opened up a deep cut above his opponent's left eye in the opening round and always enjoyed a measure of control as he secured his place in Wednesday's finals.

There was disappointment yesterday for middleweight Michael O'Reilly, who lost his semi-final yesterday, but the Portlaoise boxer still has another chance to qualify for Rio.

He will now have to face an Egyptian fighter in a box-off on Wednesday.
