Adam Nolan has won his last-16 fight at the European Championships in Bulgaria.

The Wexford welterweight beat top seeded Russian Radzhab Butaev to reach the quarter-finals and is now just one more victory away from securing a medal this weekend.

Going into the fight as the underdog, Nolan prevailed 29-28 on the scorecards.

Joe Ward is the other Irish fighter in action today. The Westmeath native will step into the ring at around 6pm as he goes in search of a quarter-final spot in the light-heavyweight division.
