Ireland's Jason Smyth has beaten his own Championship record while winning his 100 metres semi-final at the IPC World Championships in Lyon.

Smyth set a time of 10.72 to blitz the field. The final takes place tomorrow evening.

Paralympic silver medallist Catherine O'Neill is involved in the club throw final from 2.30pm.

Meanwhile in other athletics news, Cork sprinter Derval O'Rourke has confirmed she will not take part in the nationals at Santry this weekend.

The hurdler has announced via twitter that her heel and Achilles injury is taking longer than she hoped to settle down.
