Ireland winger Julie Anne Russell has been revealed as the most fouled player across Europe during the 2015 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

The 23-year-old UCD Waves player suffered seven fouls last Saturday against Slovakia to propel her third to first in UEFA’s Fouls Suffered table. She has been fouled 33 times in total.

"I had a feeling that I was being fouled a lot but I didn’t think that I would be the most fouled player in the whole campaign in Europe. However, I have the bruises and the soreness to prove it,” she said, adding that her tricky style of play may be at the heart of it.

Despite the rough treatment meted out to her Russell has not missed a single minute of Ireland’s nine World Cup qualifiers to date.

She has contributed two of Ireland’s 13 goals so far in the campaign.
