Leinster backs coach Felipe Contepomi is backing Ross Byrne to flourish on the occasion of his second start for Ireland against England in the Autumn Nations Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Some stand-out performances for the province have seen the 25-year-old return to the international fold this year after missing out on a place at the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

The Leinster out-half's previous start in green was in the 57-15 drubbing by England in a World Cup warm up game at Twickenham in August 2019 and Contepomi expects him and the Ireland team to be better on their return to London this weekend.

"I think he's definitely a better player now," the Argentina legend said. "It's not all on an individual's performance, it's on the team as well.

"At the weekend I'm definitely expecting a huge performance from him but it's the whole Ireland team that has to play well and I think they'll play really well."

Byrne feels his game has "come a long way" in the last 15 months, largely due to getting regular game time with PRO14 champions Leinster and Contepomi agrees that he's improved in the period.

"His maturity in terms of game management has evolved, fitness wise I think he's evolved, he plays flatter on the line so he's been evolving.

"I think Ross Byrne is a great example of how a player can evolve and keep evolving week in and week out."
