Roy Keane is not one to hold back on his opinions, however unpopular they may be.

The Republic of Ireland manager was speaking on ITV's Champions League coverage last night when he was asked about the tackle which broke Luke Shaw's leg. The Manchester United defender was tackled by PSV Eindhoven's Hector Moreno which resulted in his right leg breaking in two places.

"I thought it was a brilliant challenge. I love the physical side of the game. You can always tell by player reactions and none of the United lads at the time, and players are best judges because they are nearest the tackle, didn't react over the top thinking it was a bad challenge", Keane said last night.

Moreno has apologised to Shaw for the tackle. He took to his Twitter account yesterday saying he hoped the former Southampton defender made a quick return to the pitch.

Shaw will remain in an Eindhoven hospital to continue his recovery having surgery on his broken leg on Tuesday night.
