With just one weekend left in the season, former Irish international Paddy Mulligan joined Raf Diallo on the Monday Rewind to look back on the weekend and look ahead to next season.
The former Chelsea defender has been unimpressed with both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones at Manchester United this season. Jones has disappointed Mulligan especially and has "regressed" since joining United from Blackburn Rovers. Mulligan says that both men are comfortable on the ball but have not learned the art of defending since arriving at Old Trafford.
Arsenal may finish in second place come Sunday evening, yet Mulligan does not think that Wenger's side will challenge for the title next season due to their defensive frailties. He mentioned that championship sides start in defence and feels Arsenal fall well behind Chelsea in that regard.
Liverpool's issues may continue next season when Gerrard leaves and Mulligan has been unimpressed with Coutinho and Henderson in midfield. The Brazilian is "a one trick pony" who likes to dribble but has no end product. Henderson also has a better reputation than is deserved because he is an English international according to Mulligan.
Raheem Sterling did not escape Mulligan's judgement either. The winger has issues kicking the ball and the former Irish international revealed to Raf that he calls Sterling "jelly ankles" because of his inability to kick a ball. He advises Liverpool that if a club make a big money offer to Sterling to "go and grab it".
