Whatever Martin O'Neill does, there will always be comparisons with the managerial reign of Giovanni Trapattoni.
Obviously, in terms of communication skills, the Derry man wins out easily.
Emmet Malone of the Irish Times was at today's press conference, following O'Neill and Roy Keane's first training session with the Ireland squad.
Malone witnessed a manager who is "good on many topics", "very funny" and a "performer".
But he did notice similarities when it came to the way in which both managers insisted that they were comfortable in different systems but also hinted that the calibre of the players dictates the style.
"There was a huge overlap between what Trapattoni always said and what O'Neill was saying," said Malone.
"Essentially under Trapattoni, there's the show and then there's three points. Ultimately what's really important is the three points. O'Neill talked about the various systems he's used at Leicester, Celtic etc. Trapattoni did that all the time. He talked about how he played at Juventus and in Austria. He kept on railing against this suggestion that he was negative and the football he played was neanderthal. Many disagreed with him but essentially he said what O'Neill said today. It's going to be really interesting with O'Neill now and what he thinks this team is capable of."
