Spain

"Adnan Januzaj is an oasis in the desert" wrote MARCA's Jaime Rincon after Chelsea brushed Man United aside by a 3 - 1 scoreline last month, painting a depressing picture of a squad needing an overhaul and a manager who is realizing the scale of the task at hand.

After 81crossgate against Fulham, Real Madrid's unofficial mouthpiece stated the obvious when it said that David Moyes had failed to maintain the level of yesteryear

That seems to be a theme at MARCA. Following the 2 - 1 defeat at Stoke, they said that "David Moyes has been unable to revitalize Manchester United since Alex Ferguson retired."

Naturally, with Juan Mata being Spanish, the publication took great interest in his arrival at Old Trafford. Indeed reporter Marcos Lopez claims that the chase for Mata began during the Alex Ferguson era and allows the Reds to play the "passing game" that they had been lacking.

Spanish daily El Pais compared Moyes' poor start to the early Ferguson years but added that the situation was far different this time round as there will be less patience for the current incumbent at Old Trafford.

But they did highlight the fact that Moyes was respected because of the job he had done at Everton with meagre resources.

But John Carlin was far more damning in his appraisal of Moyes after the League Cup defeat to Sunderland, with the reporter stating that "he is a decent man elevated to a job above his capabilities", although he added that Moyes did not have an adequate squad at his disposal.

Carlin also asked whether Ferguson knew that he was handing the reigns to a manager who was destined to fail.

France

Recently leading French sports paper L'Equipe ran this cover which reads 'Devils In Hell', which sort of says it all...

Germany

Kicker magazine cited defensive midfield and left-back as problem positions for David Moyes as they assessed the impact of Mata's signature.

The same magazine also said that the "under pressure" Moyes is fighting to hold on to his job.

Popular German tabloid Bild went on a completely different tangent at the start of the season when it cited a false Spanish report about Wilfried Zaha and Moyes' daughter enjoying each other's company.

The same publication also described the third round FA Cup exit as embarrassing while mentioning the farcical summer transfer dealings.

Italy

Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport saw United as a team increasingly in crisis after the Fulham setback, although they saw the signature of Mata and the Rooney contract as a sign of a revival
