As Ireland reacts to a historic win over the World Champions this morning, the reaction in Germany hasn't been so cheeful. Joachim Loew's side are still top of Group D, but need to beat Georgia in Leipzig on Sunday to guarantee qualification.
The German newspapers this morning were quick to praise the Irish team and fans whilst also focusing on the defeat and what it meant for Die Nationalmannschaft.
Hamburg based Die Welt said "Loew's team was outwitted" and they added "the Irish fans celebrated their team's victory over the World champions so much that the arena roof trembled".
Süddeutsche Zeitung added that Ireland's fans celebrated Shane Long's goal as if they "even won a title". They even spoke about how late the Irish fans took their seats before kick off. "Whether it had to do with the fact that the stadium is located right in a residential area and many Irish people were still in the pub?".
According to Die Zeit, the German side may have been complacent of a win, after their performance in Dublin just under three years ago. "Too much was still remembered from the World Cup qualifying match almost exactly three years ago. Same city, same stadium in which they had a 6-1 win".
Der Tagesspiegel were delighted to see some Depeche Mode played after the game, for the band remain to be popular in Germany. "After the final whistle, it was time for a classic. From the stadium loudspeakers blared "Just Can not Get Enough" by Depeche Mode from the deep eighties. The spectators in Dublin could not get enough at all."
German tabloid Bild were scathing in the ratings for the German players. Jerome Boetang was only given 3/10 by the paper, and no player scored more than 5.
Despite the negativity for the German performance, their media remain confident of qualifying automatically this weekend against Georgia.
