Former Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Ireland defender Paddy Mulligan says Aston Villa's Jack Grealish left Raheem Sterling in the shade yesterday, and also critiqued the performances of Liverpool's players.

The former defender was speaking to Newstalk's Oisin Langan about a poor performance from Liverpool in the FA Cup semi - and a "vibrant" showing from Villa.

"Jack Grealish, I thought played very well and you look at the way Sterling is behaving at Liverpool and you just wonder ... I know who the best young player on the pitch was yesterday," said Mulligan.

Mulligan was also critical of individual Reds players.

"I do feel Liverpool are very weak in midfield. I thought Gerrard was way off the pace, Joe Allen is all over the place. Allen and Markovic shouldn't even be on the pitch. You've got [Emre] Can in almost more or less as a right central defender or centre-back or full-back and he can't defend," he said.
