Britain's Chris Froome has extended his overall lead at the Tour de France.

He is now 3 minutes and 25 seconds clear of the chasing pack, after finishing second to Germany's Tony Martin in today's time trial.

The day was marred by Mark Cavendish having urine thrown at him. A number of angry spectators hurled abuse at Cavendish, who was cleared of blame over a crash yesterday.

Martin completed the course in 36 minutes and 29 seconds but Froome was just 12 seconds behind him and he was significantly faster than his main yellow jersey rivals.

As expected, Ireland's Dan Martin has lost time in the overall rankings today.

His time of 40minutes and 5 seconds has seen him slip back to 13th place overall while Nicolas Roche has climbed up five places to 42nd.
