Padraig Harrington has endured a tough first day at the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa.

He is 4-over par after a tricky front nine led him to a round of 76.

The three-time major winner bogeyed the third, seventh and eighth holes, before double bogeying the ninth to leave himself on 5-over prior to embarking on the back-nine.

He managed to improve slightly after the turn, birdieing the 11th and 14th holes before a setback on the 17th with another bogey.

Jeunghun Wang, Ross Fisher and Felipe Aguilar are joint leaders on 4-under.

However, it wasn't not been the best opening day for Danny Willett at the tournament.

The 2016 Masters winner is trying to stay in touch with Race to Dubai leader Henrik Stenson, who will finish top of the money list if he wins this tournament.

Willett is 3-over par, while Stenson is 3-under, which puts the Swede a shot off the lead.
