On Thursday afternoon, the sad news emerged that former England, Aston Villa and Watford manager Graham Taylor had passed away at the age of 72.

He had enjoyed particular success with a Watford side that he guided from the Fourth Division to the brink of a league title in a short space of time.

They also reached the 1984 FA Cup final.

His England spell between 1990 and 1993 proved difficult but he also managed elsewhere, including at Aston Villa.

Taylor also regularly spoke to Newstalk Sport about his thoughts on football down through the years and Off The Ball presenter Ger Gilroy said today the former manager was "one of the nicest people we have ever dealt with".

In 2011, Taylor and Ireland legend Paul McGrath, who he managed at Aston Villa, joined each other for an interview with Ger in which they spoke about how Taylor was there for McGrath when he needed him most.
