Since Cristiano Ronaldo left for Real Madrid in 2009, there have been sporadic rumours over the intervening years that Manchester United want to bring him back.

And according to Manchester Evening News, they are making concerted bids to make a big-money move for their former winger this summer.

With reports that Ronaldo is disgruntled at Real under the new coaching regime of Rafa Benitez and with the treatment of team-mate Sergio Ramos and former colleague Iker Caillas, MEN say the Old Trafford club are plotting a club record transfer.

The paper claims "the club is determined to secure a marquee buy in the vein of Angel di Maria’s British record £59.7m arrival last year".
